Dearly Beloved in Christ:

Violence has become a way of life in our beloved nation.   Although we as church and individuals cannot control all violence, we need to do our part in areas where we exercise responsibility and have some measure of control. We must commit ourselves to eliminating all forms of violence in our homes and in our schools.

In an effort to set an example of a better way to treat each other and to create a more  supportive and affirming community in our Catholic schools, the Archdiocesan Education Board has issued the following policy document on corporal punishment in our schools.

The Kingdom of God which we proclaim is a kingdom of holiness, justice, righteousness, love and peace

May the Lord bless us all abundantly as we strive to make real that part of the prayer which Jesus taught us:   “Thy Kingdom come.”

Devotedly in Christ,

Most Reverend Lawrence A. Burke, S.J., D.D.

Archbishop of Kingston
